Wishing Everyone a Safe Halloween

I remember back when I was a kid. We would take a pillow case and scour the neighborhoods. We would walk through 2 connecting towns and cover a LOT of territory. Back then, we could go out on our own when we got a little older. Now-a-days, people can’t be trusted. Back then they couldn’t, but it was a bit safer than it is now. I would never let my kids do the things I was able to do back then.

Some safety tips…

  • Don’t assume your kids are safe because they are older. Kids can be kidnapped easily due to a lack of muscles, and a lack of common sense. They are KIDS people! Protect them!
  • Don’t let your kids just dive into the candy. Even back in my day, people put razor blades in the candy. Pay attention and be a parent to your kids. You are NOT their friend.
  • Curfews are here for a reason. Back when…we could be out until 11PM. Now I think it’s 8 in our area. Maybe sooner. The daylight is your friend.
  • Make sure your kids can be seen. Use a bright orange reflector or something and attach it to them. Make sure you walk with them to each house instead of hanging out at the end of the street and letting them go on their own hoping that they come back to you.

Stay safe!

Homeless Charity Update #1: Nobody Cares

This is my first update the indiegogo project I started in order to create a new charity to feed, shelter, and educate the homeless. So far, I have 1 contribution. That one contribution was from someone that has personally seen how the homeless live and wanted to take action to help me reach my goal. I have a $200,000 goal and less than 60 days to get there.

I am a little unnerved that the campaign has been live for almost 5 days and I am getting little action on this. The campaign has been shared with hundreds of Facebook friends, thousands of Facebook users, thousands of Twitter users during a bunch of tweets, Google+ users, you name it…it has been done. It makes me wonder…does anyone care about the homeless?

http://www.indiegogo.com/lets-help-the-homeless

I am asking my vast amount of rss and newsletter subscribers to help me by contributing…even if all you can do is $10. The more momentum I get on this campaign, the better chance it can be featured on the indiegogo homepage and receive lots more exposure.

I also ask you to share share share! If you tweet, please use the #indiehomeless hashtag and direct it to @Brandon_Connell.

Remember, we have a chance to get the homeless off of the streets for good by providing them with an education in business, computers, and finance. Many of the homeless do not have these skills so they do not know that they can be earning money online even while they are homeless! What if someone taught them how to start a business while they were in the shelter? What if they had the computers and other basic needs for running that business from the shelter? They would get on their feet for good!

Stop by and contribute http://www.indiegogo.com/lets-help-the-homeless and then share for me on ALL of your social networks please!

Help Me SUCCEED on Indiegogo.com!

Hey everyone, I setup an Indiegogo campaign the other day with a goal of raising $200,000 to start a homeless charity organization. This will be a shelter like no other. Let me explain.

Did you know that homeless shelters which rely on government grants get rewarded if they don’t help people get back on their feet? They actually receive more money if they have more people in their shelter. MANY organizations abuse this and take advantage by making it hard for residents to get back out on their own. Some of them:

  • Take away cell phones so you can’t arrange for help or receive job offers.
  • Take away cash and government food benefit cards so you can’t get a car or apartment.
  • USE your government benefits card illegally to distribute the groceries to the entire shelter.
  • PREVENT you from owning a library card (and libraries cooperate!).

How does any of this actually help someone who’s homeless? It doesn’t!

shelterandlearn Help me SUCCEED on Indiegogo.com!

That’s where my campaign comes in. The goal is $200,000 so that I can purchase a building (they are cheap out here), get equipment and food, and incorporate as a charity non-profit organization.

My campaign URL is http://www.indiegogo.com/lets-help-the-homeless and I need you to contribute, even the smallest amounts. Notice that my perks are for services I offer which normally cost much more.

If you can’t contribute with a donation, then please share on all of your social media accounts. I’m talking Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, you name it!

Thank you all in advance! BTW, if you want to contribute a larger amount than what is listed, please send it directly to me via PayPal at brandon [@] brandonconnell.com (remove the [ ])

Society of Balance

For a couple of years, I have been developing a secret society behind the scenes. When you think “secret society”, you would never imagine one actually coming out with information to share with others….but this is different.

Society of Balance a.k.a. S.O.B. is a worldwide secret society which is dedicated to the members-helping-members philosophy. No matter how big a member’s goals are, all of the other members in the group have a responsibility to help them reach those goals. Because everyone is helping everyone, our members enjoy serious personal gains in social status, monetary, or even psychological.

The website is http://www.societyofbalance.org and there is an application available, however most that submit the application will never receive a response. I employ a strict code that members must live by, and I am very good at my job of researching potential members. You are welcome to apply though.

Get Rid of the Google Redirect Virus

I know this isn’t my tech blog, but my audience is made up of people who use the computer on a daily basis. With this in mind, I felt the need to warn you about the Google Redirect Virus. It is a nasty little thing that got ahold of one of my laptops not too long ago. What happened is that it hijacked every browser I had installed. I couldn’t get ANY antivirus to kill it. It was horrible, and I had to use a totally different computer to do my work.

There is a solution to the google redirect virus though. You can get a software through this link that will eliminate that sucker, and give back control of your machine. Download the program, and use it. Otherwise, you will find that every anti-virus and anti-spyware software out there is unable to delete the hijacker. I have used multiple anti-viruses including AVG Professional, Spybot Search & Destroy, Lavasoft, and the list goes on…

Click to remove the Google Redirect Virus. <—- this is an affiliate link for a very low-cost software, but it WILL remove the virus. Once you have the virus, you will understand. If you found this blog post through the search engine, then chances are you do have this nasty virus and you are looking for a solution to remove it.

Some Updates to This Blog

In case you haven’t noticed, I had the blog on maintenance for a day because I transferred it to a new server. By doing this, I am saving $85 per month. Unfortunately, as with any website transfer of a site this size, problems are going to arise. One such problem is that the forum may not be fully functional. I am working on this issue, and it will be fixed shortly.

Another problem with transferring to a new server is the fact that I have 80+ websites, and they all need to be transferred. Only 2 have been transferred so far. Looks like a week or more of downloading, uploading, dns transfers, and debugging in my near future.

The cool thing about my switch is that I have some big things in store for this year and my readers/subscribers. Firstly, I have a new custom design coming very soon. With the design comes something top secret that will benefit all of you more than you can imagine. So stay tuned.

Another new thing is the fact that something big that’s going to happen will increase my traffic on this blog by massive numbers. This fact means that it is very beneficial for you to guest post here more often. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

Thanks for standing by during the transfer. Let’s make this year a great one!

A Joke to Enjoy the Holiday

There was an old couple who had been married for thirty years.

Every morning the old man would wake up and give off an enormous fart, much to his long suffering wife’s annoyance.

“You’ll fart your guts out one of these days,” she always complained.

After a particularly bad week the wife decided to have her revenge and got up early, placing some turkey giblets in the bed next to the old man’s ass.

While making breakfast downstairs she heard his usual morning fart reverberate through the floorboards followed by a scream.

Twenty minutes later a rather shaken man came downstairs.

“You was right all along honey,” the old man says, “I finally did fart my guts out, but by the grace of God, and these two fingers, I managed to push ‘em back in!”

Happy Holidays!

TSA Stories Anyone?

Over the past month, I have been watching constant news stories pop up on Yahoo! which happens to be my homepage, about travelers who have felt violated or molested by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). In addition, their backscatter xray machine which is supposed to not be able to take photos of travelers, is indeed capable of doing so as it was leaked that the agents were keeping a huge amount of snapshots of the nude pictures.

Because of all of this stuff, Alex and I thought it necessary to open up a forum of sorts where travelers can tell their own story about how they dealt with the TSA, or how the TSA dealt with them.

Our Solution

MyTSAStory 300x170 TSA Stories Anyone?MyTSAStory.com is a free online publisher of traveler horror stories. If they felt you up, or took home some bootlegged pornos of you created by the Backscatter X-Ray, then share your story.

Why We Did This…

We created the site after hearing about how the TSA wanted to prosecute someone who decided to leave the airport instead of submitting to nude photos or sexual assault. We created it after an elderly cancer survivor ended up with pee all over himself because of a brutal pat down from a TSA agent. We created it after a woman was felt up because she was wearing a skirt.

We should NEVER be forced to trade our freedoms for a false sense of security. In America, we have the right to not be searched without reasonable suspicion. Strange how a constitution works eh? Buying a plane ticket does not mean you give up your rights! Hence My TSA Story. Share yours…

How to Give Up on Your Dreams

The idea of giving up on my dreams has crossed my mind every single day for 29 years. That’s my entire life. But it hasn’t crossed my mind in the way that you would think. When I thought about giving up on my dreams, my thoughts were “NEVER”, and that is how it has been every single day until tonight. It is 12:20 am on October 25th, 2010 as I write this. What got me thinking was earlier when Jean from VirginBloggerNotes.com announced that she is giving up blogging. It was kind of upsetting because she has been in this thing for around the same amount of time as I have. I felt betrayed a little. What got me thinking even further was a late night chat with my wife about the “status quo” in our marriage. What she told me was basically that I was a selfish person. That wasn’t her words, but I knew what she was saying. I also knew that if I didn’t make a change then she would suffer for as long as our marriage lasted. In addition, things would be ‘stale’ in our household.

I have thought about the changes that I need to make in order for my wife to be happy. The fact is that I need to spend more time not only with her, but dedicated to her. If that means that I have to miss out on the shows that I like so that we both watch only things that she likes, then so be it. If I have to give up my obsessions with the business world then guess what’s going in the trash? I thought about the things that I can manage to not give up without sacrificing her happiness. One of those things is this blog, and the time I spend with it.

As a part of my new-found path, I have decided to take on a lot less clients for html/css coding work. I am only going to focus on the psd designs and the internet marketing. I will still make money through this blog and other sites I own too. I will be getting a 9-5 job, but not because I need it. I am getting a job because my wife needs her space, and I want to give it to her. If it will bring us closer together for me to be out of the house for 5 days a week, then so be it. Her wish is my command.

I didn’t make these decisions lightly, but I did make them quickly. I got out of bed after the talk and decided to write this post. I thought that because I always provided inspirational articles that were meant to give you motivation, I can also provide the other side of the story for those of you who wish to stop going after your dreams. Just be sure that your decision to give up is based on what you feel is right, and not something you are forced to do.

Keep in mind that this list is meant to be somewhat humorous (and depressing) and I apologize ahead of time for the crap contained within it.

To give up on your dreams:

  • Get an unfulfillable job. Take the first job available and make sure you hate it dearly. Ensure that the job sucks the life out of you so that you don’t have energy when you get home to pursue your dreams. Get a job that is going nowhere, and one you can’t advance in.
  • Soak up your free time on days off from your crappy job watching the endless bullshit on television. Nothing on? Sign up for Netflix and get addicted to a bunch of old t.v. series and movies.
  • Get addicted to alcohol or some other substance. Alcohol and drugs help you to think that you aren’t missing out on anything in your life. These things help you space out and ensure that you won’t accidentally decide to get motivated.
  • Be selfless. Dedicate every minute of your life catering to someone else’ needs. Don’t get all selfish all of the sudden and decide to do something you want to do, even for a minute. It might get addictive and it will surely mess up your goal of giving up on your dreams.
  • Degrade yourself. Make sure you tell yourself on a daily basis that you are worthless and deserve a shitty life. You will start to believe it quickly and it will be hard to break out of should you feel motivated in the future.
  • Get depressed. Depression is an addiction, trust me. It is a slump you can’t get out of unless you want to, and when you are depressed, you like being that way. The last thing you really want is help. Depression can be crippling and definitely make sure you won’t want to leave the house.
  • Make sure you don’t back up your websites and blogs so that if it were to get hacked, it would be very hard to go back to that life. I am screwed in this department because I back up multiple times a day. Damn habits!
  • Forget everything you learned about blogging or whatever else you like to do. Forget all those motivational articles you read on this blog, or any others. They contradict what this guide is helping you to do.
  • Tell all of your friends and family members who told you that your dreams were a bad idea that they were right. This will ensure that your friends and family will help you stay unmotivated by giving you their “I told you so” speeches every time they see you or speak with you on the phone.

Got any more ideas on how to give up on your dreams? Feel free to mention them below. If you do not want to give up on your dreams however, then what the hell are you doing reading this post?! Do the opposite of every single thing I mentioned. Don’t feel abandoned by me… I am not giving up my blog or my business. I am just slowing stuff down in business (probably picking things up on my blog) and shaking up my lifestyle a little but. Maybe I will find it is too drastic and decide to go back to how things were…
