Healthy Blogging: Feeling Good Can Make You Blog Better
Are you fat like me?
I know… not very nice. But I am allowed to talk about something that I can relate to. I am 5’8″ and weigh 250 pounds. This means I have a BMI (body mass index) of over 38%, You aren’t supposed to have a BMI over 25%.
I am considered obese right now. Not only that, but I am very much out of shape and can’t do a lot physically without getting tired. I will not be letting this problem continue however. Tomorrow, I am buying a juicer and will only be having one regular food meal per day. Then every time I get hungry afterwards, I will be juicing fruits and veggies.
But that’s sick!
Well, shit happens. I should have thought about that before I let myself get out of shape. Aside from that, juicing doesn’t have to be nasty. You can mix up things for a good flavor. For example, I wouldn’t just juice some broccoli. I would combine it with a green apple to make it go down easier.
I know you may be wondering “what in the hell does this have to do with blogging?”, and my answer would be that it has everything to do with blogging. If you have not noticed, I haven’t been posting here very much. As a matter of fact, it’s been nearly a month since I last posted an article.
My reason for hiatus was not just that I have clients, but that I am too tired and my mind is not as clear as it should be. This has a lot to do with my health. I should feel much better at the age of 30, and I should have a lot more energy than I currently do.
It’s time that I stop using my treadmill as an end-table and start taking care of myself. I want to see my feet again when I’m standing up. More importantly, I don’t want to let my blog turn into an echo chamber.
How To Be An Unhealthy Blogger
If you want to avoid the trap I fell into, then I can give you some suggestions and tips. Hopefully my misery will help you avoid your own. Of course, if you want to be unhealthy, do the opposite of what I tell you below.
- Don’t sit on your ass 24/7 - If you really want to get out of shape, find a way to keep yourself busy on the computer all of the time. I should be getting out for a walk at the park at least every two days, or using my treadmill that much. I should be playing basketball like I did when I was a teenager. I remember what it was like to have some nice abs. Get active right now, and don’t let your blog become your entire life. You will find that you have even more inspiration in your writing because of the events of the day.
- Eat healthy - I am NOT saying to avoid double cheeseburgers from MacDonald’s. Actually, you should eat what you want. But you should also eat healthy fruits and vegetables more often. Even more importantly, eat until you are full…. not until you are stuffed. This probably means that you should avoid buffet restaurants.
- Avoid headaches - Don’t stare are the computer monitor for hours at a time. You can think heavily about what you want to write about. You can even write it down on paper while sitting on your deck getting fresh air. Then when you are ready to publish it, you can type away, do your editing, and post it. Take it from a web designer and coder; headaches will come if you don’t follow my advice. A bad headache or migraine will easily kill your creative side fast.
- Make you abandon your blog
- Take away your creativity
- Take away your drive and passion
- KILL YOU

Oh, Brandon, what a timely post this is! I just posted on my own blog last week and set my goals for this month – one of which is to cycle every day as I too am getting seriously unfit! We do have to look after our general health and well being as well as our career happiness. I have been very good so far at sticking to my goal but wonder what will happen when the winter comes….I used to go to the gym but it did not inspire me so I stopped. It was a complete drag. So I’m going to start Zumba dancing with a friend next week and that will sustain my exercise regime through the winter. Good luck with your healthy eating!
Enjoy the journey.

Hi Brandon, we have more in common than I thought.
I am also over weight and in need of doing something about it. I used to play wheelchair basketball, which kept the weight off, along with my twice weekly hand cycling sessions.
I fell from my wheelchair and broke a leg in 3 places meaning all sport stopped. I never got back into it and have since gone from 11 stone to 15 stone.
Whilst attending the hospital a few weeks ago one of the staff looked at my belly and told me i was diabetic. I told her I wasn’t and she made a face as if to say “yeah right fat bloke”.
I then got a letter from my Dr’s saying I had to go for a fasting test to see if I was or not. So I went and had the test then I got another letter saying I was booked in for a diabetic clinic at the hospital.
So I attended the hospital, waited an hour to see someone, who ushered me into a room and made me wait another 30 minutes to see the diabetic team.
In they walked, along with the one who said I was, and got talking about my condition. I asked if the results of the test had come in so they checked and found that I wasn’t diabetic at all.
I then told the person who said i was that i felt insulted and that they should look at my hospital records rather than my belly. She walked out of the room blushing and stayed out of the way until I had left.
I was insulted by this person but do realise that over weight people do run the risk of becoming diabetic.
So Like you Brandon, it’s time to do something about it!
Back soon mate, best of luck with the juice diet.

Thanks for the tips. I think that as a blogger it’s important to keep in mind these easy tips to stay in shape. As we sit in front of our computer most of the day we can get caught up in our work on the computer. It’s actually pretty easy to take a half hour and just go for a walk, or spend a little extra time to prepare a healthy meal instead of going to get fast food!

Right. You lose energy and motivation if your health goes south. Thanks for the comment!
I admire those who live a healthy lifestyle but I’m somewhere struggling in between healthy and not so healthy. I have my veggies and follow a good diet but I think as long as we watch that we’re not crossing our limits sometimes its fine to indulge in temptations
Multiply all these by X when one gets past certain ages. I’m semi retired and always been within 10 pounds of my high school graduation weight. That didn’t happen by accident. I always ate fairly good – oh sure I had my fun foods – got sometimes a ridiculous amount of FUN exercise and kept depression at bay as much as possible.
Nuff sed.
Okay, this is so true, its almost scary, it’s like you know me. There are times I get serious writers block and have no way to get rid of it. Thanks for the advice by the way. Simply awesome

I camp in front of my laptop for hours and sometimes it really takes a lot to pry myself away from it. There’s always so much to do (really!). I do realize the importance of working but running is so boring for me. I am probably going to learn some workout while playing some catchy music! Does a partial liquid diet really work well? I might end up juicing more stuff to make that cup than what I eat as solid food!!
Great post! I was searching Google for health blogger tips! I think the most important is to get off your butt, and don’t eat junk food! I like to go for a walk, and read my emails on my blackberry!
