At the end of last year, I had a contest where the winner (Devesh from Technshare) received $100 and an interview. Well, both Devesh and I have been so busy, that we are both just now getting to the interview. I would like to thank Dev for taking the time to answer my questions, and hope that all who reads this will go check out his blog at http://www.technshare.com
Now for the interview…
Brandon: You went at this contest like a pro. How long have you been marketing online?
Devesh: Thanks Brandon. I didn’t thought that i will won. I’ve been marketing for 1 year. I first started my blog Technshare.com in January of 2010 and I have been involved in hacking, warez stuff prior to that.
Brandon: That’s impressive for a year of marketing experience. Did you build up a strong network with others in the hacking industry and leverage that to get Technshare going?
Devesh: Yeah, I was able to build up relationship with people in hacking industry but it didn’t help Technshare in any way.
Brandon: How did you go about getting people to comment on your post?
Devesh: I did utlize the power of Social media sites. Here are the exact stratergies i use to get comments on my post…
- Asking from Facebook Friends to comment on.
- Asking for Rts in Retweets Clubs.
Some Things that i didn’t do because of lack of time
- Social Bookmarking Sites like Blogengage & Blokube (disclaimer.. blokube is my site).
- Do some blog commenting on blogs that are usnig commentluv.
Brandon: So your best strategy was to just ask for help by posting on your Facebook page and others? Is that a strategy you recommend for others that are trying to get traffic to a specific post?
Devesh: That won’t be a nice strategy to ask for help; The best way is to ask your friends to comment on and share it on social sites.
Brandon: Do you participate in many blogging contests?
Devesh: Nope. I’ve put a stop on it for a while, but i think it’s great way to build a relationship with other bloggers, make some money and get traffic to your blog. Last contests that i join was Blogengage and FamousBloggers.
Brandon: Were you confident that you were going to win despite getting in on the contest nearly at it’s end?
Devesh: As I said before, I was not confident. I thought Steve was going to win as his post was getting lots of comments and shares.
Brandon: Steve was getting a great response. Where you completely surprised when you overtook him at the last minute?
Devesh: Yup, that made me more then happy. I never thought that I would win as steve was getting great response.
Brandon: When did you start blogging seriously?
Devesh: It all started with a vietman blogger. He was making more then $1000/month from his blog and it inspired me to start blogging seriously. Later I found passion in this field. Now I don’t blog just to make money.
Brandon: Based on your desire to blog because of the money, you are very much like me. Most people quit blogging when money is the main motivator and it doesn’t happen overnight. What advice can you give to other new bloggers who are in it for the money?
Devesh: I agree with you, i’ve seen many people start blogging just to make money but end up with no results. Blogging takes a lot of hard work and time.
The best advice I can give is to keep blogging, until you’ve reached success.
Brandon: How long did it take you to start making a decent income from Technshare.com?
Devesh: It wasn’t until October 2010. That was october when I started making a decent income. Most of my income comes from Affiliate Marketing, and I’m yet to try adsense.
Btw. I see you’re using Adsense on your blog. Do you make any money? If yes, then I would love to hear your thoughts on Adsense. May be a guest post on Technshare :).
Brandon: I started out using adsense, but I made pennies every month and took it down. I recommend staying AWAY from adsense when you have miniscule amounts of traffic. I recently put it up on the blog and the forum because of the traffic I get. It suppliments my micro niche sites too, which adds up. Will you be adding adsense anytime soon?
Devesh: Nope. I haven’t planned to use adsense anytime soon, but maybe I will use it for my social bookmarking site.
Brandon: It only took you 10 months to start making a decent income then. That is on the shorter end of the timeframe that we pro bloggers recommend. Does that come from the services you offer on Technshare also? Or is it mainly the affiliate marketing?
Devesh: It varies from person to person, what kind of person you are. If you’ve got the ability to write high quality content & promotions, then you can have success in less than 10 months.
Services that i provide are my main income source, and affiliate marketing in my second biggest source of income. I even have a back up “Mailing List” =)).
Brandon: I have noticed that you manage to receive a lot of guest posts on Technshare.com on a regular basis. How do you attract this kind of loyal guest posting?
Devesh: The best thing I did to get more guest posts was staging Blogging Contests. I did a guest blogging contest last year and it was very successful that my blog started getting daily submissions from some great bloggers.
Brandon: I have had a couple of guest post contests on my blog too, and I didn’t have the same result you did with submissions. Do you have any tips for getting more guest posts on my blog?
Devesh: Cool. The best way to get more guest posts are by guest blogging contests & inviting other bloggers to guest post on.
Brandon: What seems to be your biggest traffic source?
Devesh: My Biggest traffic source is Google. It has been the biggest traffic source for the last 6 months.
