Get More Traffic & Revenue by Driving Your RSS Subscribers Back to Your Blog

Last week I got the opportunity to peek through MaxBlogPress Bring My Blog Visitors Back and learn how it changes our customary approach to RSS Feed.

RSS Feed, though very useful tool for allowing subscribers stay connected to your blog content, has its own drawbacks. The subscribers stop visiting your blog because they get it all from RSS Feed what they want from the blog. This leads to less user participation on your blog thus decreasing your blog traffic and revenue as well.

To overcome this shortcoming, MaxBlogPress Bring My Blog Visitors Back comes into scene, and if you are inside the circle, you must by now probably have used it or heard rave reviews of how it’s been so useful.

MaxBlogPress Bring My Blog Visitors Back is a powerful WordPress Plugin that offers you more flexibility and control over the RSS feeds, enticing your RSS readers to visit your blog without slightest annoyance and at the same time, adds value and increases readership of the blog.

Because along with the content, they take away your identity also thus providing you free back links and traffic.

Isn’t that amazing?

Bring My Blog Visitors Back works exactly as its name implies. It brings back the potential visitors lost somewhere on the premises of RSS Feed who otherwise should have been playing on your blog happily.

10 Must Have WordPress Plugins & Why

I have written about the many plugins I use in the past. I would be lying if I didn’t say that I used a lot of them. But there are a few that I have singled out as the most important. The reason being that I have seen complaints on other blogs in the comments section about this and that.

The Top 10 Must Have WordPress Plugins

  1. Akismet – Many bloggers think they know the reason for having this. They also think that it’s worthless because they end up with a ton of spam comments to moderate. But the fact is that this plugin should never be used alone. I use it paired with the #2 plugin below, and I completely eliminated spam on my blog. Let me repeat this… I eliminated 100% of spam on this blog! Download
  2. Conditional CAPTCHA – This requires Akismet to work. My regular readers will never see a captcha on this blog before they can post. However, if someone were detected as spam by Akismet, they will be displayed a captcha to prove that they are human. If they are human, then the comment gets through and goes to spam moderation. Every single one that has gotten through and into spam moderation has been real humans, and the bots that used to post a ton of crap on this blog cannot penetrate the system. Convinced yet? Download
  3. Contact Form 7 – I have used other plugins. There was one that had to be updated manually, and that sucked horribly. But when I switched to Contact Form 7, I have not used anything else. Every form you see on this blog uses it. If you contacted me above through my contact page, or my services pages, you will see this plugin in action. You can create multiple forms with multiple requirements. It’s great! Download
  4. Comment Reply Notification – It truly sucks when you are blog hopping, and you comment on a blog that does not have a simple checkbox allowing you to subscribe to comment replies. I like to know when someone responds to something I said on a blog. It allows me to come back and comment again to carry on the conversation. As a blogger, you should have the motive of increasing your comment count, so why would you not have this simple functionality? Download
  5. Newsletter Pro – I used to use their free version, but it has impressed me so much that I ended up upgrading to Newsletter Pro. It was well worth the investment. I see so many newbie bloggers signing up with a 3rd party subscriber service, and I want to slap them. Why? Because if they stop paying the monthly fee, they no longer have subscribers. I control my entire list, and I send out newsletters directly through WordPress. No 3rd party will ever have access to my list, and my subscribers appreciate that because technically those services are a way of “sharing personal contact details with a 3rd party”. This plugin is more advanced than any one of those services anyways. Why downgrade when you aren’t even getting a great service? Download
  6. OIOPublisher – Just like I control my list, I love to control my advertisements. This badass plugin allows me to place banners of any shape and size or text ads, ANYWHERE on my blog. It also automates the sales of ad slots through PayPal and other payment processors. This isn’t a free plugin, but it is cheap. And if you use my December 2010 coupon code XMASGIFT-EXCHANGE you will get $10 off. Download
  7. SexyBookmarks – This badboy allows every one of my posts to have maximum exposure to social networks and social bookmarking websites. As a matter of fact, I invite you to use it below, and submit it to every site you have an account with icon wink 10 Must Have Wordpress Plugins & Why Download
  8. WP-UserOnline – I am a crazy man when it comes to statistics. And I like to know when there are people on my blog, and what posts/pages they are checking out. This plugin allows me to see visitors in real time. It also shows me what’s popular right now because I can see what articles they are reading and sharing. Download
  9. Smart YouTube – I occasionally reference a YouTube video in my articles. When I do that, I want it to be as simple as possible. With this youtube plugin, I can easily insert a video by just linking to it and placing a V after the http. Example httpv:// then the URL will display the video in your actual post. This is cool stuff, and simple for anyone to use. Download
  10. Page Links To – I am using this plugin, and you didn’t even know it. See my navigation? Notice I have a free forum here on my site. That is not a forum through WordPress. It is another php script running the forum. But I linked to it through WordPress in the navigation without touching php code! I did this with the Page Links To plugin which allows you to link to anywhere in your navigation like you would a WordPress page. You create a page, then change it’s destination to the URL of your choice! Download

There are tons of other great plugins like I said, but I didn’t list them here because that would sort of defeat the purpose of a top 10 list. I hope my vital wordpress plugins list has helped you, and I will continue to share my resources with you in the future.

Uncategorized and Other Blogging Mistakes

Managing a blog is not a task to take lightly. It is labor intensive, and will eat up a good chunk of your time. That’s why it is understandable that people sometimes make mistakes. The key is to recognize those mistakes and correct them from then on.

A few of those mistakes are:

  • Uncategorized blog posts:

This is a big offender. I have made that same mistake, even here on this blog. You work hard on an article making sure that it is not only lengthy, but fully informative and not lacking key points. Then you make sure it has all the right post tags and meta tags. What happens next is that you mistakenly hit publish before assigning a category or two for your post.

OOPS! At this point, it is best to leave it because chances are, search engines and blog directories have already been pinged. You don’t really want to go in and remove it from uncategorized and replace it with something else because Google could already be on that category indexing it. You CAN go in and add another category to that post if you like though.

I understand how easy it is to make the category mistake, but it is important that it does not happen often. You are losing out that way by not having an important keyword in the url. To avoid this mistake, you can remember to slow down before you publish. Go over every single thing on that post before you continue. In wordpress, start on the left where your post content is, then work your way to the right side and check the publish date and time, then the post tags, then the category. If you have a meta tag plugin that allows you to edit them, make sure they have the right density before you go further.

  • No SEO:

Your WordPress should be as search engine friendly as they get. Blogs are meant to be search engine friendly as it is in a blogs nature. You should ensure that you have the plugins installed to help with this. Look over the basics such as the url, and set your permalinks so that the urls are not dynamic. You can also install one of the many seo plugins available for download.

Search engine optimization is a key factor in the way that Google and other biggies look at you. Without seo, you are reducing your blogs potential for top 10 rankings.

The good thing is that with blogs, you don’t really need to hire a seo professional like myself. All you have to do to get top 10 rankings is post on a daily basis. Get those original articles out there, and install tracking like Google Analytics. Watch where your traffic comes from.

  • Micro-Blogging:

Micro-Blogging was made popular with services such as Twitter. Some people don’t understand how to use that tool though, and they end up posting two-liners on their actual blogs. Your blog should be a place where you can post decent size articles that hold some actual value to the reader. You can utilize tools like Twitter to bring traffic to your blog, but it shouldn’t be your business model to emulate them.

There are good plugins for WordPress like wp-to-twitter which will automatically post your latest blog article using a url shortening service like bit.ly or cli.gs. I use it on this blog and it comes in handy. You will notice if you went to my twitter that it posts a portion of my articles and links back to the lengthy original. Doing this will help you get followers, as long as you actually write content with meat in it. If you micro-blog on your blog then you will just turn away that reader for life.

  • Being greedy:

I understand that you want to monetize your blog. But you can make that happen faster if you allow people to help you. After you have posted on your blog for a month or so regularly, you may get an email from an aspiring author wishing to guest post on your blog.

Guest posting on blogs bring in traffic to your own blog. Other authors know this, and they want to take advantage of it too. The good thing is that their original article will actually help your blog by giving it fresh content, and the traffic/rankings it might bring in.

It is important that you allow guest bloggers that can write an article on your target topic(s). Just say yes!

This is not a complete list, but the fact is that you will have to learn as you go just like everyone else. If you follow these pointers, you will have a good starting point to help you run with it and never look back.
