The Basics of Automation That Make Blogging Easier
Blogging is rediculously tough to get going to the point of regular traffic and monetization. So why make life even harder by not utilizing basic automation for tedious tasks? You need all of the time you can get to promote your blog, comment on others, and write great content (which comes first).
I have been struggling with my time lately as this blog has gotten much busier along with the guest posts I have been writing (some unpublished). I find myself drained physically and mentally by the time I go to bed, and then I lay there with insomnia thinking more about marketing and monetization. It’s just crazy. So I jump at every opportunity to automate a task. I automate my text linking a lot so another post, or page on my site, or a related affiliate offer is sprinkled in here and there.
One of the tools I recently started using is SocialOomph which is a free service and has helped me automate direct messages to new Twitter followers, and auto-follow back. I figured what the hell, I don’t mind following a million people if they all follow me too. I can extend my reach that way. I even signed up with their affiliate program (for their upgrade service) because it is a service that I can stand behind.
I got wise to affiliate masking and started using Pretty Link for affiliate urls. I can track clicks better this way and it just looks more professional instead of some bulky affiliate link.
A tool that would help me build but is not automated at first is a new ebook I am working on that everybody and their momma is gonna want to get their hands on. I even got a few big bloggers on board to help promote it. It isn’t automated because I have to do all of the work creating it, designing graphics for it, etc. But it ends up automated PR in the end because once it is published, it will be downloaded over and over again for years to come.
At this point, I have even considered outsourcing some of my marketing work through social networks. I figured it might be wise to hire someone with millions of followers to post blog links for me here and there. It can’t hurt!
If you are going to get serious about blogging, you need to consider every automation option right now before things get nuts.
What do you automate?

Wow, I like what you’ve done with the place! It’s getting so big
I personally believe automation is great, as long as you don’t loose the personal touch. If you have a million followers – make sure you can satisfy them and make them feel like an individual, not a number.

Oh u noticed the Facebook comments? Some people will never understand the personal touch, but the ones that do I don’t think will change because they have a million followers.

Hi Brandon,
I know what you mean when you say that automation should be used wherever/whenever it can be used. I am coming back from 2 weeks away from blogging (though, truth be told, I will still not be completely back for a while) & I am finding that I am a bit overwhelmed by all that I know that I should be doing. For example, I still need to determine what I will be writing about this week. Now, that can’t be automated, but some of the other things that I normally do can.
The social media stuff is probably the most time consuming, so that will be first.
Have a great day!
