BC125x125 Why your gravatar just doesnt cut itGravatars are great marketing tools. If you have one of your own, you can brand your image on other people’s blogs. How? Well, gravatars are meant to be your picture which go next to every comment you make on other blogs. It’s kind of like a logo. You know what Nike’s gravatar would look like if they had one right? It’s all about branding your image so that everyone knows who you are just by looking at your gravatar.

If a gravatar is not used properly, did you know that it is unlikely to be worth more than every other insignificant image on the web? Your gravatar must stand out from the crowd in order to be remembered. I have noticed some gravatars that I would just never remember because they decided to use their picture as their representation. There are even some bloggers that I communicate with on a daily basis and as I write this, I cannot remember what their gravatar looks like (sorry guys).

You may notice my gravatar above. I designed this one of 5 minutes. I am a graphic designer, so I had that on my side. But I knew that mine had to be unique and it has to be recognized when blended in with thousands of other comments on some of the larger blogs. I can honestly say that I achieved that goal. I can skim across a comment area on ProBlogger.net and instantly pick my comment out from the crowd because my gravatar just stood out at me.

Please do yourself a favor today, and redesign yours so that you know for a fact that you stand apart from the rest.
